Gabrielle Wang was born in Melbourne of Chinese heritage. Her great grandfather came to Victoria during the Gold Rush, settling in the town of Wahgunyah by the Murray. In her twenties Gabrielle lived in China and Taiwan for a number of years. While there she studied Chinese language and traditional painting. After working as a graphic designer she discovered her love of words and became an author.
Gabrielle's stories are a blend of Chinese and Western culture with a touch of fantasy. She has twice won the Aurealis Award for Best Children's fiction, and her books have been named Notable Books in the Children's Book of the Year Awards, and shortlisted for the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards. She is published internationally in UK, US, South America and Asia. Her latest book series features a girl living during the Victorian gold rush.
