Schools' Program Venues

Most schools' program events take place in the following venues across the Federation Square precinct, Swanston Street, Melbourne:

• BMW Edge Theatre 
• ACMI Cinema 1 and ACMI Cinema 2, Australian Centre for the Moving Image
• Yarra Building
• ArtPlay at Birrarung Marr

Some special events take place at:

• Immigration Museum, Old Customs House, 400 Flinders Street, Melbourne.
• The Wheeler Centre, 176 Lt Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

The Melbourne Day Workshop and Tour meeting point is at the Melbourne Writers Festival Box Office at the entrance to the Atrium, Federation Square.

Access Information

All schools’ program venues have disability access and lifts. For any assistance during the program, please ask one of our front-of-house staff or visit our Festival Box Office in Federation Square.

Federation Square is also home to the Melbourne Mobility Centre, who can help you plan your visit.

Public toilets are located by the 7-Eleven in Federation Square opposite the Melbourne Visitor Centre, and in the Atrium. An ATM and public phone are located near the 7-Eleven.

Bus loading zone

There are 2 zones where buses may park temporarily to drop off or pick up students attending the schools’ program events in Federation Square. The loading zones are located on Flinders Street, and on the Russell Street Extension.
