Michael Hofmann Michael Hofmann Michael Hofmann,born in Freiburg in 1957, went to England at the age of four. He studied English at Cambridge and now lives in London and Hamburg and lectures at the University of Florida. He is the author of several poetry books and a book of criticism, all with Faber, and the translator of many German authors, including Joseph Roth, Wolfgang Koeppen, Durs Grunbein and Thomas Bernhard. Penguin publish his translations of Kafka and Ernst Junger. Michael edited the anthology, Twentieth Century German Poetry (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2006). His Selected Poems are published this year.
