Robert Gray has published eight volumes of poetry and has won many major literary prizes: the Adelaide Arts Festival Award, Victorian Premierís Award (twice), the NSW Premierís Award, The Age Book of the Year Award, the Patrick White Award, the Grace Leven Prize (twice) and the Marten Bequest travelling scholarship.
He has been a writer-in-residence at the universities of New England, Wollongong, Macquarie, Western Australia and at Meiji University in Tokyo. He has toured the UK, Germany and China, and has read at most major literary festivals including Toronto, Rotterdam, the Hague, Berlin and Kings Lyn. His work was set for many years as an HSC English text in NSW and has also been a set text in Victoria. Two selections of his poems have been published in the UK as well as a selection in China, the Netherlands and Germany.
